December 2021 - Expanding Membership to Condos & Coops

There are approximately 900 homeowners and an estimated 30 coop buildings within the boundaries of the KGCA. In December 2021, the KGCA board of governors voted to expand membership to coops and condos at the corporate level. As the KGCA is a volunteer organization it was felt that we did not have the organizational capacity to accommodate membership at the individual owner level for these buildings. It is contemplated that communication between the KGCA and individual owners will be done via the building representatives. Individual owners will be invited to KGCA events and programs. Only the building representatives will be allowed to vote at the annual meeting.

Kew Gardens’ political geographic fragmentation puts us at a disadvantage and reduces our political Influence. Kew Gardens is currently divided up between City and State electeds (Hevesi/Rosenthal, Comrie/Addabbo, Schulman/Holden) and lies at the geographic edges of all these election districts. Given the number of critical issues facing our neighborhood increasing our membership will increase our ability to influence decisions at the state and city level.
